A blowing agent has to be soluble in the
polyol at room temperature. It can be a low boiling liquid or a gas at
room temperature. The blowing agent should be released during the
initial stages of the reaction with the isocyanate. During the
reaction of the polyol with the isocyanate the solubility parameter of
the polymer is changed. These change in solubility parameter can
improve the release of the solvent. Cell size and uniformity of the
cell formed in a foam depend on nucleation of the gas bubbles and the
surfactant used. Heterogeneity in the polyol, additive such as small
particle size fillers can improve nucleation.
If you need the molecular weight of the
blowing agent.
